With all the uproar about recent incidents in Mexico, I am concerned about our spring break plans for Cancun. I have decided to buy a little extra travel health insurance and maybe some travel life insurance just for this trip. This is freaking out my husband but I think it is wise to be safer than sorry. I think Cancun is out of the main area of concern. The government is warning about travel to Mexico and some families I know have changed their plans. I don't want to change my plans. I love the warm sandy beaches of Cancun.

I wouldn't be too concerned. Most of the violence is in the border areas. Cancun is a fairly safe area. Most of the resorts are located in the hotel zone. Basically like a big gated community. That being said, you still need to be smart. If you are really worried, stay at your resort. Don't flash a lot of jewelry. Don't buy drugs. Try not to go out alone. Don't get so drunk you can't make competent decisions. The usual advice no matter where you are.

As far as insurance, buy it if you can afford it because it will give you piece of mind. Enjoy your trip. In reality you probably have less to worry about in the Cancun hotel zone than you do in most major U.S. cities.

If this is just someone posting this to link to insurance offers, then my thoughts mean nothing because this post will be deleted.
