I'm thinking about going on a yacht charter vacation.

From what I understand, there are many different types of yacht charters. You can rent a yacht and cruise around by yourself or you can charter a yacht vacation with a captain and crew. Sometimes you are alone and sometimes it is a larger yacht with other people.

I like the idea fo finding a husband and wife team who own a boat and cruise around the Caribbean on there own each year and then host a few vacations to help pay for their own travels. It would be kinda like a vacation rental by owner type of thing, but they would be there to handle all of the boating responsibilities. Also, since they spend part of the year on their boat, they will know the best harbors and places to go.

I thought this type of vacation would be out of my league, but I have found a few options that are very reasonable. It seems like I can experience a yacht charter vacation for about the same price as a week at a higher end all inclusive resort.

Has anyone here ever gone on a vacation like this? How was it? Would you do it again?

I looked into them a few years ago and remember liking the prices and options. I think the main reason why I still chose to stay at a land resort is because I was afraid of being on the water. I'm not sure if it is sharks or the thought of being capsized that deterred me from doing a yacht charter, but I know both fears are not grounded in reality. Still, I feel better with myself on solid ground.
