The Obama Administration has been granting special "people to people" tour licsenses to tour operators who include cultural events in their tours of Cuba. The idea is to allow American travelers to go to Cuba as long as they will have some sort of contact with the Cuban people instead of just sitting in some all inclusive resort with other tourists from Canada and Europe.
First, I think this is a great idea. Traveling is one of the best forms of diplomacy. It would be great for Americans and Cubans to interact and share with each other. The more two peoples interact, the less they are to be in conflict.
Second, if you have ever wanted to go to Cuba, you should try to do it as soon as possible. Cuba has remained very similar to how it was in the 1960's when the embargo was put in place. There have been few large scale resort complexes built. Very few cruise ships have visited Cuba which means the port cities have not become cruise ship shopping zones.
As more Amercians travel to Cuba, the tourism industry will certainly expand. If we ever see a complete lifting of the Cuban embargo, the amount of people going to the beaches of Cuba will be rediculous. Not only because the beaches have been restricted and offer something new, but also because the beaches in many parts of Cuba are wonderful.
The point here is that Cuba will change rapidly if there is an influx of American tourists. The economic impact of American tourists will change Cuba forever. This means you should try to get there now so you can experience Cuba as it is (and as it was) before it changes into what it will soon become.
