Nathan Andover Impulse Travel Purchase Risk When Friends Travel

Some friends of mine are on a vacation in Costa Rica right now.

It definately has me itching to go on a trip.

I wonder how many people book travel plans while their family or friends are on a trip?

Not only does their travel remind us how great traveling is, but we also seem to have a small "keeping up with the Jones" mentality in this country.  If my parents go to Cozumel, I hope they have a good time.  If some of my friends go on a trip, I…

Nathan Andover The Future Of Travel Agents In The Cruise Industry

I found a statistic that says a large percentage of people use a travel agent when they book a cruise.

I also saw an article about how travel agent commissions are being reduced.

Are cruise lines basically hoping they can book more cruise vacations directly?

The loss of travel agents would be a loss of service and knowledge.

I realize that the internet allows people to quickly search for ships and prices.

I know…

Nathan Andover Cruise Industry: Did You Know?

Since the Concordia crash, I've been doing some research on the cruise industry.

I've never been on a cruise, but if prices drop, maybe I will give it a try.

More than 11 million Americans went on a cruise last year.

More than 5 million Europeans went on a cruise last year.

The tipped over Costa Concordia is owned by the Carnival Corporation.

Carnival has 101 cruise ships sailing under the names Costa,…

Nathan Andover Get Ready For Low Cruise Prices

People just got a major reason to cross a cruise off their list for this year.

Images of the sunken cruise ship will drive prices lower this year.

This will be great news for seasoned cruisers who will cruise no matter what.  They will recognize the lower prices and will be very happy customers.  Some of them may take the opportunity to upgrade their choice of ship and route.

It remains to be seen if lower prices will bring in the novice…

James Scott Cute Beach Police

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but the police force in Acapulco, Mexico posted an ad seeking attractive women who would be trained to police the beach and tourist areas.  They are even designing a new police uniform that would highlight the features of the female police officers.

Of course, the plan has not gone over well with the general population in Mexico.  Many people and groups are outraged at the idea.

From the perspective of the tourist offices, I…

Nathan Andover Americans Can Travel To Cuba Legally

The Obama Administration has been granting special "people to people" tour licsenses to tour operators who include cultural events in their tours of Cuba.  The idea is to allow American travelers to go to Cuba as long as they will have some sort of contact with the Cuban people instead of just sitting in some all inclusive resort with other tourists from Canada and Europe.

First, I think this is a great idea.  Traveling is one of the best forms of diplomacy.  It would be…

Tom McCann My Favorite Bali Hotels

I just returned from a trip to Bali, Indonesia.  One thing that made the trip enjoyable was my favorite Bali hotels.  There were some cheap Bali hotels I stayed at that I would never return to, but overall, I thought the hotels in Bali were very nice.

My favorite hotel in Bali was the Bali Hyatt in the Sanur area just east of Denpasar.  It is a very nice resort, but the price per night was still manageable.  I stayed in one of their regency club rooms.  I was expecting a…

Tom McCann Bali Beach Vacations Not So Good

I'm a big fan of beach vacations so I was disappointed in the beach options on my recent trip to Bali.  Lucily, I spent most of my time on a tour that explored the interior of the island.

We spent our first few nights in the Sanur area of Bali.  It originally was a small fishing village and remains a much quieter beach vacation option in Bali compared to the other beach areas.  I spent the first day on the beach.  I was hot the entire time.  I had a shady spot, but the…

Tom McCann I'm Going To Bali!

Everything is set for my trip to Bali.

I will be flying from Minneapolis to Chicago to South Korea to Bali.

I will be in Bali for two weeks.  The frist three days will be spent on the southern beaches and then I am taking a tour of the entire island that starts and ends in Ubud.

I'm really excited.  I know it will be a long flight, but this is a once in a lifetime opportunity.  I found an incredible deal and everything just fell into place for…

Nathan Andover All Inclusive Resorts On A Great Beach

I was watching the Travel Channel and they said that the Maroma beach just south of Cancun, Mexico is one of the best beaches in the world.

After a little bit of research, I found that the beach has a Secrets all inclusive resort and the Catalonia Playa Maroma all inclusive resort.

If you want to stay on this awesome white sand beach, both resorts are really nice, but the Catalonia Playa Maroma is much cheaper with a smaller drop off in quality. You won't get all the luxuries… Continue

Tom McCann The Benefits Of Using A Travel Agent

Why wouldn't you use a travel agent? The truth is that there are many benefits to using a travel agent.

The first benefit is that it doesn't cost anything to call and use a travel agent. When you are planning a trip, you have lots of questions and need lots of information. Wouldn't it be nice to call someone who has lots of information about the place you want to travel to? That person is a travel agent! In fact, don't just call one travel agent; call lots of them. You never know… Continue

James Scott Is Costa Rica A Safe Place To Travel?

I'm thinking about going to Costa Rica.

I keep hearing two things.

First I hear that the southern Pacific coast is lush with good beaches while the northern Pacific coast is drier with beaches that aren't as great.

Second, I hear that the airport in San Jose was one of the least safe places people have experienced. From what I understand, theft is the main issue with pick pockets and theives roaming the area. I also have heard that it is a long and hectic drive… Continue

Nathan Andover Royal Caribbean Wins Responsible Tourism Award

I love to travel, but I always worry about the effect traveling has on the environment. The good thing is that companies are recognizing the need to protect the environment so things are getting better.

Along these lines, I was happy to see that Royal Caribbean cruise lines was honored with a responsible tourism award. The primary reason they won is because they are buying ships that produce far less pollution compared to ships built just ten years ago.

As I said, things… Continue

James Scott Have You Ever Gone On A Yacht Charter Vacation?

I'm thinking about going on a yacht charter vacation.

From what I understand, there are many different types of yacht charters. You can rent a yacht and cruise around by yourself or you can charter a yacht vacation with a captain and crew. Sometimes you are alone and sometimes it is a larger yacht with other people.

I like the idea fo finding a husband and wife team who own a boat and cruise around the Caribbean on there own each year and then host a few vacations to help… Continue

Willie Let's Go Travel Guides Written By Harvard Students

I have used the Let's Go travel guides for many years, but never realized that they are all written by students at Harvard.

The guides are aimed at student travelers, but I didn't realize they were written by student travelers.

From what I understand, students apply for travel writer positions in the spring. If they are chosen, they go through some training and then head out to various destinations during their summer vacation from college. Their reports are sent back to… Continue

Tom McCann Looking For A Vacation Home Rental

I'm still doing research into options for a three to four week vacation with my family.

Since we wil be in one location for so long, we are starting to look into renting a vacation home. We have never rented a vacation home before so we don't exactly know what we are doing.

If anyone has suggestions for the best way to find, compare, and see reviews of specific vacation homes, I would appreciate it very much.

Sam Norwich Mexican Travel

With all the uproar about recent incidents in Mexico, I am concerned about our spring break plans for Cancun. I have decided to buy a little extra travel health insurance and maybe some travel life insurance just for this trip. This is freaking out my husband but I think it is wise to be safer than sorry. I think Cancun is out of the main area of concern. The government is warning about travel to Mexico and some… Continue

Peter Budget Travel 101 : What is a Hostel ?

This is my first post and i would like to compose a few sentences about hostels. Hostels are a good method to see the world on a low budget. From the cheapest to the more grand there is something to accommodate every taste and budget. The great thing about youth hostel is that tons of university students flock to them since they are cheap and enjoyable so there is all the time lots of student travelers around to party with!

In largely every… Continue
