Puerto Rico Vacations

Puerto Rico vacations are favored by many U.S. citizens because there are no immigration, customs, or passport requirements for Americans. Once on the island, you will find a cross between old world charm in the capital San Juan surrounded by an island full of beautiful beaches and lush tropical vegetation. San Juan is one of the main financial and transportation hubs in the Caribbean bringing a vibrant and high standard of living to this island.

The main beach resort areas of Condado and Isla Verde are near the capital of San Juan on the north side of the island. There also is a smaller beach area near Cabo Rojo on the southwest corner of the island. If you have an interest in surfing, the waves are consistent and surf shops abound on the western coast near the city of Rincon. The western cities also have the added benefit of nightly sunsets.

If you want to do some hiking through the interior of the island, make sure to visit El Yunque, also known as the Caribbean National Forest. There are many hikes that take less than an hour taking you through the flower and bird filled rain forest and Luquillo Mountain range on the eastern side of Puerto Rico. For some urban hiking, San Juan has a great mix of culture and activities with Old San Juan offering a chance for visitors to step back into the 16th century.

The main languages you will encounter during a vacation in Puerto Rico are English and Spanish. The main unit of currency is the U.S. dollar. The main airport near the capital San Juan is Luis Munos Marin International Airport with smaller airports serving other areas of the island. Most hotels have copies of a magazine called Que Pasa (What's Happening) that lists current events and visitor information throughout Puerto Rico.
