Maui is the home for some of the best beaches in Hawaii. It is the second most visited island of the Hawaii chain. There are ample opportunities during your Maui vacation for laying on the beach, snorkeling, diving, windsurfing, whale watching, horseback riding, mountain biking, and golf.
While some people travel to Maui on domestic flights from Oahu, there are some U.S. West Coast flights that fly direct into Maui's Kahului airport. There is a bus service that runs from the Kahului airport to the western coast beach towns. Most of the large car rental companies offer rentals from the Kahului airport that can be reserved before you arrive.
The western side of Maui is sun drenched and drier making it less impressive in terms of being a lush tropical paradise, but it is a perfect destination for great beaches with spectacular sunsets. The most popular destination on the western side of Maui is the resort area of Ka'anapali. This white sand beach destination has thousands of hotel rooms and luxury resort options. This destination is mainly for beach combers and snorkeling enthusiasts. Other popular resort areas on the western coast of Maui include Honokowai and Kapalua which are both north of Ka'anapali.
The east side of Maui is wet and lush while being backdropped by the Haleakala volcano. There are few beaches to explore, but the lush tropical vegetation is a sight to see. The small town of Hana on the eastern coast is a popular day trip destination for visitors to Maui. The fifty mile bus tour winds through tropical scenery and departs from both central and western coast locations in Maui.
