Jamaica Vacations

Travel to Jamaica this year and visit Negril to see for yourself why it is always listed as a favorite beach destination. Negril is located on the sunset drenched west side of Jamaica along 7 miles of white sand beach. Fly into the Montego Bay airport and take a short transfer to Negril. The transfer is often included in most Negril Jamaica vacation packages.

You can find all inclusive resorts in other areas of Jamaica such as Montego Bay, but Negril can't be beat if you are looking for an overall great beach vacation. In Negril, no building can be taller than the palm trees. One road stretches the length of the beach with resorts and restaurants on both sides of the road. If you stay in a resort on the beach side, you will avoid playing frogger each time you want to go to the beach.

Many all inclusive resorts populate the north end of the beach. The all inclusive resorts include beach activities and all meals. Most of these resorts also include all inclusive alcoholic beverages, but you will want to verify that before you make your reservations.

On the south end of the beach, you will find smaller resorts and more local restaurants. The south end of the beach also has many of the bars and nightclubs that offer reggae and other musical shows at night.

Just south of the beach is the main city center and the area known as the cliffs. This area was rebuilt in 2004 with a new resort replacing the old Pickled Parrot that many of us have fond memories of.

In terms of day trips, you have two main options. Mayfield Falls is high in the mountains and is known for the River Walk. You will get a guided tour of the river that will take you to numerous pools and smaller falls leading to the main Mayfield Falls at the top. Wear your suit and bring along some shoes that you can swim in or else you can rent a pair of aqua socks when you get there. The other choice is YS Falls. You will travel through some winding country roads to arrive at a spectacular set of waterfalls with a large pool for swimming. There is a short walk to the falls, but nothing like the River Walk. The trip to YS Falls is often combined with the Peter Tosh memorial and other short stops.

We highly recommend the smaller resorts on the south end of the Negril beach. They will give you a more authentic vacation in Jamaica. You also will be able to try numerous restaurants and nightlife options. If you want everything to be taken care of, then the all inclusive resorts on the north end of the Negril beach will satisfy your needs. Just make sure to take a few walks outside of the all inclusive resort gates to see for yourself the beautiful country and people of Jamaica.
