Dominica is one of the least visited islands in the Caribbean. Beaches and tourist friendly ammenities are sparse, but there are ample opportunities for hiking through the lush tropical mountains of Dominica. You will find lush vegetation, waterfalls, protected rain forests, and signed trails.

The main beach area is on the northwest side of the island near the city of Portsmouth. Try the Picard beach south of Portsmouth. For snorkeling enthusiasts, try the beach at Douglas Bay at Cabrits National Park north of Portsmouth.

Dominica is becoming recognized as a top scuba diving destination. The Scotts Head peninsula and Soufriere Bay on the southern tip of the island has a marine reserve offering great scuba diving tours. Try the Castle Comfort Lodge south of Roseau for a hotel and dive tour package from Dive Dominica.

The main unit of currency is the Eastern Caribbean dollar. The main language is english with many people speaking French patois. The main airport is Melville Hall Airport on the northeast side of the island. A shared taxi ride to the capital of Roseau from the airport can be expensive. There also is a smaller airport near Roseau called the Canefield Airport.
