Belize Vacations

Belize is a small country on the Caribbean side of Central America just south of the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula. A vacation in Belize provides a landscape of numerous offshore islands, mountainous rainforests, abundant wildlife, and of course, beautiful beaches. One of the main draws for Belize tourism packages is diving and snorkeling tours of the 200 mile barrier reef located just off the coast.

Most of the tourism, hotels, and resorts in Belize can be found on the two islands off the northern coast of Belize. Ambergris Caye is the larger of the two islands and it is the home of the more upscale resorts and hotels. The island is very laid back with palm lined beaches and many activities geared toward visitors. On the southern tip of the island, the town of San Pedro has experienced recent growth as more hotels and resorts continue to be built for the increasing flow of tourists. The smaller island is called Caye Caulker and it represents the best area in Belize for budget travelers. The best area for scuba diving is near the Turneffe Islands directly east of Belize City.

The mainland area of Belize is full of lush mountains and rain forests providing great hiking opportunities and plentiful bird and wildlife watching. Belize City is the economic and cultural center of Belize. New laws have been introduced to reduce the crime of Belize City, but you still need to be careful. Some of the new laws now impose stiff penalties for both locals and tourists who engage in the selling or purchase of drugs. Stay legit and enjoy the natural wonders of Belize while you mountain bike, hike, snorkel, scuba dive, and enjoy the relaxed beaches. If you want to see many areas of the Belize coastline, consider taking a Caribbean yacht charter to Belize.

One thing to consider before taking a trip to Belize is the cost of meals and groceries. Since most Belize resorts are located on islands, the prices for basic goods, including alcohol, can be more expensive than expected. Staying at an all inclusive resort in Belize will take away this concern.
