Barbados is one of the most densly populated islands in the Caribbean. It gained its independence from Britain in 1966 while maintaining a British feel along with many British tourists. Most of the best beaches are on the Caribbean side of the island while the Atlantic coastline is less appealing with more rugged landscapes and stronger waves.

A luxurious all inclusive resort area known as the Platinum coast lies along the Caribbean beaches north of Bridgetown. Active nightlife and more resorts can be found south of Bridgetown along the southern Caribbean shoreline. Both resort areas on the Caribbean side are full of beach activites, great swimming, snorkeling, and coral reefs for diving. Luxury yacht charters are available.

The main airport is Grantley Adams International Airport on the southeast coast. It is about 15 minutes from the southern Caribbean coast resorts and about 45 minutes from the Platinum Coast luxury resorts along the western Caribbean coast. English is the official language.
