As some of you know, I am looking for a vacation destination and I have been having some problems. I want a location that has house/condo rentals or a small resort with kitchenettes. I also want the destination to have a nice beach and a wide variety of restaurants, bars, grocery stores, etc...

I like Negril, Jamaica, but I have been there a few times and would like to find something different. I have been to Playa del Carmen and enjoyed the nightlife on 5th Avenue, but again I would like something different.

I looked into the Dominican Republic, but Punta Cana is full of all inclusive resorts and the other destinations seem too small or too far from the airport.

My latest possibility is Martinique. I'm checking into flight options, but it looks promising so far. My wife knows how to speak French so that will be helpful if we go there.

Has anyone been to Martinique? Any recommendations for areas to stay or things to do?
