Have you ever tried going on a week vacation with only a carry-on bag?

I really like the idea because lugging a suitcase through the airport and waiting at the baggage claim is a hassle. There also have been growing fees for bags lately.

The other thing is that I'm not a fashionista. I usually pack my suitcase with a ton of stuff I don't end up using. I figure I need a couple of t-shirts, my suimsuit, shorts, and a nice outfit for dinner. Add int he sunscreen, toothpaste, brush, etc... and I think I could probably do alright with just a carry-on bag.

I would probably need to do a oad of laundry or at least rinse my sirts in the sink once, but this wouldn't be a big deal.

It also depends on how strict the dress codes are at my chosen destination. If I am going to a resort that has restaurants requiring long sleeve dress shirts and closed toe dress shoes, this will add to my list of items needing to be packed.

I suppose it also depends on what my travel arrangements are. If I am just going to an airport and getting a quick shuttle to a resort where a bellhop will take my luggage, then this is no big deal. If I am going to somewhere like Costa Rica where there might be some extensive traveling and walking, then not having a suitcase would be great.

Another time I wouldn't want a suitcase is when I go to a destination without a reservation. Sometimes I go to destinations and I check out a few hotels and rooms to see if I can find the best room for the best price. This has worked out very well in some locations. Not having a suitcase during this search would be great.

Although now that I think about it, the last time I went to a destination without a reservation, I had rented a car so I just left my suitcase in the trunk while I walked around looking for a place to stay.

Another reason I am thinking about this is because I need a new suitcase. I know I will have to buy one at some point, but I like the idea of not needing it on some trips.

What do you think? Could you go on a week vacation with just a carry-on bag?
